Franchise Classics... PlayNation Swing Sets |
A Day in the Life of a PlayNation Parties and Playgrounds Franchise Owner:
“I’m Carly McDaniel and it’s my birthday!!” “Really?” I act surprised. “How old are you today?” “I’m five” she grins holding out four little fingers with glittery nail polish before running off to join her friends in the Swing Set PlayZone. Turning to her smiling parents I extend my hand and say, “Hi, I’m Maggie, the owner of the store, it’s so nice to see you again.” So begins another day as a franchisee of PlayNation Parties and Playgrounds.
Ok, so it’s not all cupcakes sliding boards, there is actual work involved in running this business. Over the course of this busy Saturday my duties will include everything from reviewing my manager’s sales reports, creating purchase orders, approving payments to vendors, discussing possible swing set configurations with customers, making follow-up phone calls for the previous weeks installations, and shopping for supplies.
With so many facets of my business to think about—from swing set sales to birthday parties, moonbounce rentals and open play admissions—sometimes it can be a challenge to stay focused. Luckily, I have hired an excellent staff, especially my store manager John. John takes care of the day-to-day transactions and maintains the store’s appearance, which allows me to keep my schedule flexible and the time to truly focus my energy on ways to grow and improve my business.
Around mid-day a field consultant from the corporate office stops by for his regular visit, just in time to give me advice on the advertisement that is due to the newspaper Monday morning. Another check in the “Done” column of my “To Do list!” This is what I love the most about running my own business, the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction of knowing that I am working for myself and my personal goals. I’ve gotten such great guidance and support from the franchisor and his staff that I am even considering opening a second location!
The karaoke machine is silenced and a few minutes later the party has ended. A happy yet tired Carly clutching her goody bag in one hand “crosses her heart” with the other and insists that she is having ALL of her birthday parties here from now on. As her father zips her coat and hoists her up onto his shoulder she says “Daddy, can I get a swing set for my birthday?” With a wink in my direction he answers with a non-committal, “We’ll see honey.” Glancing at my calendar I note the McDaniels’ upcoming swing set installation this Friday. Happy Birthday Carly, I murmur to myself as the family and their guests slowly filter out. And so ends another day as a franchisee of PlayNation Parties and Playgrounds.
